On my way home going down a very very straight and long road, I noticed there was men at work laying down a line of new red tar, I just wondered if this means theres going to be a change in the speed limit on that road or a speed camera is going to be placed?

Personally I think its speed limit change but just wanted to see if anyone can confirm this/correct me?

Normally put red tar down on or before traffic lights.

it so skid marks can be seen more easily if a crash takes place before the lights etc etc...

the red textured tar sorta stuff you sometimes find coming up to lights, or going from say a national speed limit to a 30 limit, is something to do with slowing down.

I seem to remember someone saying it was to stop people skidding if they quickly slowed down, but I think it's basically just very grippy and so it allows someone to slow quite fast.

sounds like it, the road is rated national speed limit, so probably making a 30 zone or something (half of this masssive long road is just surrounded by fields, the other end is houses)
