Just built a computer for a mate, and the ATA133 drive is running at 700kB/s uncached. and about 7mb/s cached. I checked that its not using PIO mode, so does anyone else know what it could be? Its also taking aaages to load a CD from the D:. Any ideas?

Try using other IDE cables. You could be using slow UDMA 33 ones. Also check in the BIOS and see if you have the HDD set to ATA 133.

Put the IDE CD ROM on a sep BUS to the HDD. The HDD my be running at UDMA/ATA 33 due to the CD ROM being this speed.
