Im only 17 so its junior positions im in at the moment, im currently a Junior CAD technician, but i have a tit of a manager hate him to high heaven. But on friday i went to help out the surveying part of the company at coventry airport (surveying runway lol) , which is under a different manager and hes way better than mine, and heard they got a job position opening and i reallly enjoyed fridays work. Problem is in the long run it seems CAD Technicians get more money than a qualified surveyor its not much but theres a clear difference.

Should i stay for more money, or go to surveyor side for a better time?

Im stuck

Cad Technician - stuck inside all the time, tit for a manager...
Surveyor - travel about, always changin environment, decent boss

if the pay diference is more than 2k, stay with the CAD technician, if not, go out in the open air!

I work in the same industry and I can tell you that I wouldnt swap if I were you.

We have 4 full time surveyors, but we often go out on surveys ourselves too. Surveying is good as you get to visit different areas, but its a pain in the arse if you have to do it all the time - especially in the winter. All our surveyors would easily swap to CAD Technicians if they could.

The money isnt wonderful now, but with time, experience and training under your belt, you'll soon take a large jump in wages and you'll be glad you stuck with it.

From having gone through what you have, I recommend you stick with it. But its your life...

Do what you enjoy while the money is comparable and *become* the manager after a few years in the job.
