Anyone got this?

I'm considering buying one of these free view digital boxes, because they're quite cheap now and I get bored only having 5 channels. Even though the extra channels you get are a bit crap, its still a change and there's supposed to be more coming soon.

The thing is, how many of you who have this have had to have your ariel changed?

I read somewhere that some people that buy the box won't be able to use it on their existing ariel? anyone know if this is true?

Yeah, get into Currys (or go to www.freeview.co.uk) and do a check on your post code, i know that i'm unable to recieve all the channels...

I personally, can't get ITV2 and that's the only real reason to get one.

As far as aerial upgrades go, very few people have to upgrade their aerials, although u won't know until you get the box and install it...

The channels are pretty wank really, ITV2, BBC New, Parliament n all that shite, BBC3,4,5 etc..etc... That's about it really... QVC, some other shopping channels, and then a few radio channels...

doh, I was looking at the one in currys for only £39

on the freeview site I got this message?

Freeview covers your area for the postcode but you probably need a new type of aerial.

do you think it says that to most people to cover its back? or is it just me?

Basically for them to have made their checker they would have sent a team out everywhere with a device and also looked at the buildings to see whether they had a suitable aerial, only way they could do it IMO.

Also they would have had a device to determine whether that particular area had a strong enough signal strength for digital terrestrial.

exactly, like i said, you probbly don't need an upgrade, but u won't be able to tell until the box is installed and setup n everything...

Get to Curry's or Dixons and they should be able to print you out a full list of the channels available to you

I work at Currys, the Ferguson one at £39.99 is no longer on offer at that price, there's one at £59.99 and £79.99, the main difference being that the one at £60 has only one scart socket and the other has two...

i work for hughes electrial in east anglia, the cheaper ones as saxo said have one scart, the best one is the sony - £130 which has optical output but i always reccommend the panasonic at £99 as its easiest to use, we sell a pace one for £70 which is good to,
www.freeview.co.uk tells you how strong the signal is in the area not how good the receiver is, if you have a loft or rooftop ariel most people are fine

For some reason my channel 5 through my freeview (old ondigital) box doesn't work, but my ordinary channels 5 isn't too bad

It's not all that great, i agree with anton002.

I've found that travel channel too

The aerial in my flat is 15 years old and picks up freeview no probs; it's also a shared aerial between 4 flats. Works at home fine too although we had an aerial upgrade a few years back because my Dad just wanted one I've got a Pace box which is one the the first Freeview boxed out which s really good and alows software upgrades.

Think i'm gonna get Sky soon though for Trouble, Sky 1, E4 and good old Men and Motors at night

For £30 - £40 you cannot go wrong. That's just like a Friday night out.
