The headphones are well worth their money compared to other makes of the same quality IMO. I tried the range of headphones from the cheapest to the most expensive and the cheapest at £150 i think it was, were just as good as Bose ones at well over £200. I'm assuming that as long as you can get a good seal with the earphone into your ear then they'll be just as good quality. I'm trying to get hold of a set off a mate so if he finds them i'll let you know what they're like.

My mates got the black detox ones, paid over £400 for them, hes a producer and reckons they're worth the money.
I sold a load of knock off ones about 12 months ago, impossible to shift them now they all come with serial numbers you register and all the sites pointing out all the little differences between the real and fake ones. That said they were still really good quality (build and sound) for less than £100, no doubt half the components are the same.

Sound OK but that's all they are, OK. The detox's i tried are far too bass and top heavy for serious listening (didn't try them with an amp but i can't imagine it'd improve things) and they're bloody expensive for what they are. Personally i would recommend you look at Audio Technica/Fischer/AKG/Ultrasone (580s would be a good shout)/Denon as you'll get something more refined for half the cost.
If you're going to be listening to them for any serious amount of time i would really think about getting a decent headphone amp (a cheapy CMOY is a good start) as it can make a huge difference to the sound.
Have a look on Head-fi.org as well, plenty of info over there.
Ash - Surprised he went with the detox's as they never get good reviews for studio use and most engineers wouldn't touch them with a barge pole for mixing.

A separate amplifier you plug in between your source and the headphones, just like an amplifier for speakers really.

As John said, it's an amp that sits in between the line-out of your source (on a iPod you'd use the line-out connections on the dock connector, bypassing internal amplification you'd get on the headphones output, using a LOD cable) and your headphones. Ultimately it gives you more power than the internal amp (minimises distortion) which allows you to drive higher impedance cans (ie: AKG K141M @ 600ohms; usual in-ears can be 10/15ohms) and usually results in a better soundstage.

I have the solos, had them for 2 years now. The rubber padding on the top strap fell off, the control talk button stoped working also. They are worth the money but only just, they are very bass heavy but the Hd versions are ment to be better balanced out. The in-ear ones are total shite and not woth the 100 odd quid, if its in-ear ones you want then look at lentek sonix and Radius atomic bass's. They 2 are better then the dre's and cost almost 100 quid less. Avoid skull candy at all cost, utter utter shite.

I didnt think my skullcandy ones sounded too bad but the build quality was terrible. The headband bit snapped on both mine and my brothers.

Portable Amp - You can pick up a generic CMOY (very basic, good starting point) for around £10/20, usually that'll be in 'kit' form (ie: get the soldering iron out) otherwise pre-builts are around the £40 region (i picked up mine for about £20 off eBay already built in a mint tin).

Best bet is to have a scout around the head-fi.org forums and see if someone can suggest something for your headphones.
