My Gran had her MK3 Astra MOT'd today.

The failure sheet is below.

Im not sure on the rot. I jacked the car up earlier and there is surface rust, but no holes. Iv had a good 20mins poke around with a screw driver and nothing seems dogey at all.

The brake line deffo needs replacing, which I will do.

They are going to charge her £130 for the brake line and welding, but im not sure where they will be welding?

Have a taken a few pics. Do you think there trying to fuck her over?

Thanks in advance!

It's wont be the subframe mounting, but it will be within a certain distance from it, and that will be whats it's classed under

It's probably the rear inner arch, I've welded a few there before.

£130 seems ok if that includes the free retest.

It's an old car.

Nope, nothing.

There was some yellow paint on the brake pipe, but nothing rot wise.

As said it should be obvious where they have seen the rot, will be marked with chalk and theyve likely had a good poke/chip at it too

Place round the corner do MOT's for £25 and free re-test. The current place are hardly going to go back on what they have said.

If it fails on rot (which im sure it wont) then I will weld it and get it re-tested.

I will take it down, less likey to get fucked around.

Do you really think there going to say 'ohhh yeah, sorry, I got it wrong'? Im not up for them to start fucking me around. I have convinced my self that there is nothing wrong with it, so I will pay for a new MOT elsewhere and go from there.

Alot of things can be missed when your lyin on your back on a driveway under a car, whereas they have it on a 4 post ramp with inspection lamps and know what their looking for, no offence but unless your an mot tester then you dont really
If you ask to get shown the rot then obviously they will have to show you, they cant magically make some appear so if there is none they will have to go back on their word
Il await a thread about treating rot on a mk3 astra in the next few days
