some don't have a reverse gear. Usually you install a separate reverse box though!

You can either modify the box to give you that gear or install an electric motor to move the car backwards. Or get out and push.

Good question.
Does the car actually need to drive for the MOT, or just stop and not fall apart?

SVA doesn't require it and therefore MOT doesn't. New IVA test which is coming in soon will though I think.
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Once an engine has been converted, and everything is running, is it as simple as telling the DVLA that it's had an engine transplant, or would they want to get it checked out etc? My old corsa didn't need to be checked, then again, it wasn't a bike engine

If you're just swapping the engine you just notify them of the new numbers.
Bike engined kit car is different though as you'll generally be starting with a different chassis and carrying over enough components to keep the registration number, but it needs the test to return it to the road in its new configuration.
