In "To a Mouse" he goes on about a wee field mouse and how its homes just been wrecked - but hes actually talking about mankind and how we exist etc.
In "To a Louse" hes talking about an insect crawling up a pretty ladies bonnet in church and how she doesnt realise its on her - hes pointing out how shes forgotten the reason shes actually in church and shes too busy showing off etc.
Erm...trying to remember the others...

Cant really remember them all.
Basically there are hidden messages in them all and some had political messages that should the politicians/whoever have been intelligent enough to understand them then Burns might have been hanged.
Hes a total legend up here though, totally before his time and underestimated etc.
I thought poetry would be dull at school, but we did his stuff in Higher English and its actually really good.

Totally agree fella. Legend, no shadow of a doubt.
Used to stay in a farm just along the road from me. Think it was there that he wrote "to a mouse" but i may be wrong........ cant remember all that stuff now.

Yeah, something like he was out either cutting the corn or he was walking as they were doing it in a field next to where he was.
They destroyed the mouse's house and so all the hard work the mouse had done to build it was a waste. And that the mouse wouldnt have time to build another so he would surely die in the coming winter.
Nice and happy then!
