Originally posted by Ian I trade online all the time. You can do is safely, just look after yourself. Half the problem is that people don't use basic common sense.
I would go along with that. I have only been stung once and that was for a cylinder head for an R5GTT where one of the owners club members was selling it on behalf of his mate who didn't have internet access. I got all details, phone numbers etc and spoke to him before-hand, the guy seemed genuine even saying it didn't have the push-rods etc. Nothing turned up, initially he would answer his phone and soon stopped doing. I had, and still have, all the contact details, address, bank details etc but for the money involved I would sooner forget about it as I am not going all the way to Devon for a meagre sum of money. I have done hundreds of transactions online and that has been my only problem other than the odd slow postage which I can live with. A golden rule - if it seems too good to be true then stay away. If they are not prepared to let you collect then stay away. Like when that guy scammed some of the Ford forums and people moaned that they had paid £50 for 5 alloys including delivery!?! The people must be sodding stupid as it cost that at the time for delivery alone.
