It's a saloon car championship. 4door = saloon

That's it, it's all to do with the rules, in the old BTCC, the rules stated the cars must have 2 doors each side, and be of a certain length, there'll be a regulation to similar effect now.

the reason is because most race series stem from some form of saloon racing in some form or another

theres no reason for costs, its because what the rules state

but the repair cost of a door to a rear quarter would be cheaper, would it not?

i doubt cost is a problem for shells in BTCC...

they dont buy old fleet cars to convert.

well just generally Ian. I see alot of 5 door cars in the likes of BTCC and ametuer racing. It must be a cost thing...

Which cars do you mean? I know Volvo ran an estate because they said it had better weight distribution...

I'd guess if you're talking saloon wise it'd be cheaper shell, 4dr saloon would generally cost less than a 2dr saloon

no idea? longer wheel base? :|

manufacturer wanting to show off the 5 door model in the race series? as that's what they're trying to target for sales?

Ok, so quite a lot of race cars are 5 door, is this because of:
a)cheaper shell
b)cheaper repair bills when the rear side is hit?
