Round roses like that need to be bolted together through the door, if they are screwed to the doors there is barely anything to fix to and they can't cope with the turning like a handle with a larger plate can.

Add to that you need a heavier duty latch as the handles tend not to have a very strong spring and the cheaper ones have plastic internals.

With the doors on the landing closed, the landing is really dark. There's a blind on the back of the door but the little bit of extra light that is cast through makes a world of difference - feels lighter and airier

These new engineered timber doors seem to be very good. They look the same as a traditional door but are much more stable, I've hung a few now and not had to go back to one.

How come you have glass in the bathroom door?

If you have decent casings they are the style to go for nowadays. Just beware if you need to take a lot off, they only tend to have a 6-10mm lipping on each stile before you are through to the core.

All primed ready for paint and can be had with solid(ish) core. Builder Center, Jewson, Travis Perkins etc will be able to get these although they will almost certainly have to order. Howdens are more likely to have theirs in stock.

Dipped doors aren't really suitable for painting. The process tends to strip the glue which makes the joints open up.

Howdens do a range of primed moulded doors but solid core, think they call them "developer core".

We found a set of 7 solid wood doors in our loft that we didn't know were there. They were already painted but we had them dipped for about £40 back to bare wood. I'm sure if you went to a reclamation place or looked in the buy and sell, gumtree etc someone will have a set of doors for cheap and a lot of the older doors are better condition and a better style.

Was thinking that when reading the description - "Our Geneva oak veneer doors are sturdy enough to reduce sound transmission and maintain heat. They look great in both modern and traditional homes, and each door is supplied unfinished ready to paint, stain or varnish." - why buy oak veneer to paint over?

Looking for some decent internal doors. I've had the cheap moulded ones from B&Q and they are dog shite, the kitchen one i had to cut some off the bottom because of the height of the tiles so its just the skin as they don't allow much cut off. Need some solid doors that aren't too expensive but are paintable, the pine ones are all really knotty which i'm sure are a real pain to paint. Ideas? Don't want to spend a fortune
