just got my gas bill through.

i was £114.99 in crdit and paid £117.00 via 3 direct debits of £39.00.

i used £152.48 worth of gas and am in £78.48 of credit.

thats 27th October - 28th January. I thought i'd be well over.

they have raised my direct debit to £42.00 a month now though :(

My last gas bill they actually owed us 12p.
Our quarterly gas bill is nothing, but we run economy seven so our electric bills are high.

It is the worst time for bills. In our old place the winter period was always more expensive.

I've not had a water bill yet. They set up my direct debit at £21 a month. I don't use much water so doubt I'll have spent over that. Total £100 per month on services and after 3 months I'm still £80 in the red :lol:

New build 3 storey terrace, 3 beds, 20 Dec - 29 Jan our dual fuel came in at £79 so I'm still in credit by over £30, only pay 45 a month combined direct debit.

Water rates are covered perfectly at £20 a month but this varies wildly throughout the country, we are on the solo tariff because we use less than 75m3 if water a year...

Seems so. Loft is insulated (albeit old stuff up there, but walls are solid stone and all single glazed

Im in a 2 bed apartment and i pay £25 a month gas and i'm always in credit. Only pay £25 electricity too. Do my own meter readings and send them to the supplier.

I guess the heat loss in an old victorian place would be quite high.

Can you get billed monthly for utlities?

Perhaps I'm being shocked by the sheer cost but forgetting its the worst time of the year in terms of time off work and cold weather.

My direct debit is for £40 gas, £40 electric so as you say it'll be cleared in a few months. In fact my electric bill has come in at half that so even better on that side.

Cost of heating water should be minimal. I've got an electric shower and the washing machine heats from cold. Gas hob too which is maybe half an hour per day.

I'll make sure I keep taking readings - I've been slowly using the heating less and less over the weeks so it might just be that when I first got the place I was a bit careless....

Depends on how efficient the boiler is, bill more than halved when we got a new one.

Mum and Dad are going to be a little upset at their heating bill when it comes in I think :o

i'm waiting on my bill, although i was £112 in credit so shouldn't be too bad. i don't have a gas hob/oven either.

You'll find thats about right Andy, You'll pay about £40/£50 every month of the year to get your account well into credit, so that at christmas you don't get stung.

How oftenly do you have the water on ? I have mine on for an hour every other morning and its fine. Just looked at mine and it was about £180 for the quarter. Heating on minimum 4 hours a day, some days all day, so days 6 or 8 hours.

Just got my first gas bill through since I moved in - last quarter 03/11 to 31/01 = £225 :!:(

1 bed flat in top floor of an old Victorian townhouse. Worse still is that they've used my meter readings confirming the gas used is that amount.

I might not have been as efficient as I could have been, but I've not been running the thing 24/7 at all. Probably 5/6 hours heating per day and then hot water on top. Obviously with Christmas and stuff its also been used more than but I'm actually horrified. £60 a month would've been ok given the cold weather, but jesus christ.
