Its sorted, my uncle got on a plane from Scotland and came over and fixed it! Took him all of 30 mins and a bloody plumber couldn't be assed to do it who lived facing her! Cock!

Thanks for the help though guys. I wasn't smart enough to fix it

Circulator pump?
Motorised valve?

Would be my guesses hard to tell without looking.

Turn every radiator off bar 1 see if that gets hot if so open the rest up 1 by 1 making sure each one gets hot

As for a zone valve they have a little lever on the side which you can manually open and lock open

When I loosened the bleed nipple water did start coming out but not spraying out and there was no air.

First thing I'll do is check the pressure, I would've thought of that if I had've seen a gauge, does this be in the roof space some times?

I'll have a look for a MOV, if it does turn out it isn't opening can I do anything with it?

I'll bring my vent keys wit me :), theres a way of doing this to try and get air out isn't there like turning of all the downstairs rads or something?

Its alright I dont now loads either, just from experience in fucking about with stuff

If you loosened the bleed nipple you should have got water spraying out if all was ok?? Sometimes a burst of air then some water.

Check the pressure & top it up if needed, there will be a gauge on the boiler or at the hot water storage cylinder if theres one.

Have a look for a MOV downstream of the boiler, make sure its opening as the boiler comes on.

Maybe try bleeding a few radiators?

Not sure what kind of system it is, pump is going fine, not sure if there is motorised valves in the system.

Air lock was my original thought but I turned the red nipple thing on top of the air vent and nothing happened so it wouldn't be an air lock would it.

I didn't think of checking the pressure  so thats something I can check tomorrow.

I probably won't be able to do nothing but I just wanted to have a list of things I could check and hope I could get it on. Its not nice seeing her sitting there with her coat and gloves on :( and shes not for moving!

Sorry for not being able to give much info.

What kind of system is it?

Pump

MOV

Air lock

Enough pressure in the system

Although failure of most of these would shut down the boiler & not nhave it running all day.

Problem - no heating!

Oil fired boiler is firing up, I can't hear much noise from it but the flu is hot and so is 1 pipe (flow or return I don't know) There is no heat at all in any radiator or even the pipes. I've tried poring hot water over the pipes outside incase any are froze but still no luck.

The radiators haven't been heating for the last 2 days but the boiler has been on consistently. Then this morning the radiators started heating but for only two hours and they haven't heated again since.

This is in my grandmothers house and she lives on her own, she won't go and stay with a family member with heating, so for Christmas I want to fix it for her tomorrow if I can :) we can't get hold of a plumber for the next few days!

So tomorrow what can I try? I trained in plumbing and heating for a year but I still don't know what could be at fault.
