my sky HD is £57.

i get:

3 entetainment packs
sky sports 1 (all sky sports channels for 3 months promotion)

phone
broadband

unlimited broadband was £17iirc and line rental is about £11, HD pack with one entertainment pack included is £28 iirc, so 3 packs is £30.

i realise that's £58 but bill comes to £57.50 or something.

Thanks, useful advice, especially withe the gas and electric. I think we'll jus set up a joint account and look to put about 1300 between us a month in and see how we get on.

Individual bills - Pass, all DD so they charge me, they take moniez.

All I know is £800 each per month dissapears into a house fund, which covers everything from a high mortgage, to shopping. Whats worse is after 4 years, i only seem to have paid about £6k.

THATS depressing.

Advice - Pay as much as you can over the top of your mortgage in the first few years. Really helps. Wish i'd known to do that :(

Wait till winter ben and next year your gas will more than likely go up. In the winter my gas bill is about £100 a month, so gets credited throughout the year.

3 bed mid terrace new build (£138,000) in Lincoln.

Mortgage - £492 (+£50 for rent for similar sized place)
Mortgage-related insurances - £40
Leccy + Gas - £38
Water (metered) - £19
Council Tax - £120
Pet Insurance - £12
Sofa - £30
TalkTalk (phone + BB) - £19
TV Licence - £12
Food - £250? Dont keep track tbh...

Then we have our personal stuff like mobile phone bills etc. Id say you are about right, depending on what part of the country you are in, £600 a month rent will get you a nice 3 bed detached house in Lincoln, but in London its probably a box on the street.

Overall, id say you are about right

I'd budget more for Leccy and Gas, Mine is £36 and £40 for a 2 bed flat.

Food could be £100pm or £500pm, depends where you shop

TV license is £11.50 or something like that

Before I go into this, i've had a look back in house day and can't find a similar thread even though i'm sure i've seen them before, anyway...

I'm currently in the process of saving/buying new furniture etc ahead of moving out with my girlfiend some time probably around February (although that isn't fixed, could be earlier or slightly later) and having not had to worry about household bills for a while I've lost all sense of what stuff costs so would like people to share thoughts on what I think is a half decent rough estimate of my monthly costs to run a 3 bed semi:

Rent - £600
Council Tax - £120
Water - £40
Electricity - £40
Gas - £40
Food/Essentials Shopping - £240
TV License - £15
Phone Line & BB - £25
Sky+ - £40
Total - £1160

We can manage that total monthly bill quite comfortably (when considering other debt, running a car, 2 contract mobiles, a semi busy social life etc), especially so if she gets her ass into gear and gets a better job. I'm just validating this a little as depending how far off I am I might try and talk her into getting somehere cheaper, and remove some of the luxuries in order to try and save at the same time for a deposit on a mortgage.
