I wouldnt add membrane atall, Because it rots and comes to the surface eventually , Aslong as you dig the borders over and de weed just scoop out some earth and replace with wood chips, Little hint if its a big area go to a saw mill and ask them alot cheaper than buying bulk bags,

cool :) Project for tomorrow to dig it all up. I have a end of the garden which is really low and sloping, so ill use the extra soil to make it a bit more level.

Yea id add membrane, although i did read bark is brilliant at preventing weeds.

I still have about 50m2 of membrane left lol

Can i just dig down and then fill half what i dug out with bark? giving me a lower plantable border?

be best putting a membrane down to stop weeds too.

As deep as possible would be best for the bark. To shallow and i'll just vanish in time
