what type of roof you got trusses or a traditional cut rafter roof? this can make a big difference in cost if you are getting a carpenter in to do the carcase of you'r loft conversion.

depends whether you want to stay with your current lender or move elsewhere to get a better deal at the same time??

are you tied into your current deal??

a remortgage essentially is moving your mortgage elsewhere, if you want extra funds at the same time if there is equity in your property then you can ask for this too. also if you go elsewhere some lenders offer deals like free valuation ect

If you just want to raise extra funds with the lender you are with currently then every lender has a different policy around this so you are best checking with them. for example some will arrange this free of charge, some will charge, some will charge and also want a valuation done and some lenders wont even be able to accomodate you.

Want to do it right so that it'll add value to the house...would hopefully make it a 4 bedroom flat and it would only have cost me £46K :D

i wish i had a small mortgage 220k is mahoosive....20k should be plenty, get a few qoutes from different builders, dont necessarily go with the cheapest, see which one you would be comfortable doin the work and make sure the price he quotes is guaranteed the price you well pay....

Depends what you want to do..

Basic plasterboard/wiring and velux window can do it for about 5-7k....

extra plumbing etc up there will add alot more onto it...

Missus used to work for velux.

20k sounds like a decent amount to convert a loft. should be easy for that :)

if you do the work yourself it works out an awful lot cheaper and it is relativly easy.

When my parents looked into they estimated about 20k, so that should be enough really.

Just to get a rough idea to see what I need...somebody will know a ball park figure and what is invloved.

Cant beat first hand experiance for guidance

To find out how much for a full conversion, why not ring around for some quotes, that will give you the best idea, i would of thought different companies charge different prices. :boggle:

Right - Mortgage at the moment is peanuts

I want to re-mortgage and get an extra £20k to convert the attic.

A couple of questions - What’s involved with re mortgaging?

and

Will £20K be enough for a full attic conversion?

Anybody have any experience on either subject?
