Originally posted by Ben J Return of standing "sections" now????
I doubt we will ever see a return to terraces how there were, even though i personally think there is no reason why they cant, it's just too ingrained in people minds that they are somehow dangerous and the police will always use the old "harder to identify people" line. But like i said in my earlier post, football fans have changed. Its nothing at all like it used to be, at whatever level of football you watch. Aye, you still get the odd bit of trouble here and there, especially at high tension derby games but you cant even begin to compare it to how it was back in the 70/80s. And, you get trouble at any sport, rugby for instance is by no means innocent, yet they can still stand and drink at games. There should be no reason why that shouldn't be allowed to happen in football grounds. I think it will give a boost to the safe standing campaign, using the rail seats idea. It would be a step in the right direction to getting standing back in football at least. As i said though, I'm hoping we see a real change in attitudes now. Football fans were NOT to blame for Hillsborough, poor policing and organisation was, and I'm sorry, it doesnt matter what sport it is, or what reputation its fans have, if a big event is policed badly, if its organised badly, if its held at a venue not fit for purpose, its going to end in disaster.
