From what I can tell it would just be making the Gallowgate end the same as the 2 larger sides of the stadium.
Can't expand around the stadium as houses are grade listed IIRC.

Phase two will involve superior apartments behind the Leazes End of the stadium while the scheme will be completed by a purpose-built conference centre.

Development within St James' itself would take place at the Gallowgate End.

Is the supporters club a free standing building?

And the Magpies are also pushing ahead with a move to expand the stadium to a minimum of 60,000 to maintain their place as one of Europe's leading clubs.

Depends, I think they were only looking at adding a tier. They're not allowed to expand other areas.

surely if they expanded that section it would be much more than an added 8k?

if they have had any sense they'd of been buying up as many of the houses around the ground over the years, I know thats what we have been doing at Anfield incase we ever decided to expand Anfield.

IIRC the houses round the side looked quite nice, would cost a fair bit. Either way i'm glad as that stadium looks so odd with half of it being huge. there is a road behind the goal they could build over I guess.

looks like its mainly aimed at improving all the area around the stadium rather than focusing on the stadium itself.

Would be strange if they didnt look to go to atleast 65k, as 60k really isnt that large these days IMO.

Looks like we're jumping on the stadium expansion band wagon. Details here.
Only surprise is that it hasn't come sooner. 60,000 capacity wouldn't even add another 8,000 so wouldn't surprise me if Fat Freddy tries to get more planning permission.
