Just get what ever Ixus is on sale. The compacts today are generally very good and in your price bracket they're not all that different.
If you're used to Canon it makes sense to stick with that as the menu layout etc. will all be the same.
That said, Sony makes some nice budget cameras too.

Make sure which ever camera you choose has panorama stitching. It's a great feature for holiday photos.

If you wanted the Canon, can't you just find somewhere else that sells them?
Did you try Currys?

I was going to buy a Canon Ixus 230 HS from PC world; reserved one and a 50 min drive to the other side of Bristol only to find its not there!! http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/cameras-camcorders/digital-cameras/compact-digital-cameras/canon-ixus-230-hs-compact-digital-camera-black-11434037-pdt.html

So need to find another; wanting to spend around £100. Just want something that can easily be taken out as has a Canon SLR for getting nice shots. But due to the size and hassle of carting it around I don't take enough pics.
