How close do you want to get? If you just want to try experimenting with macro how about a reverse ring? (you attach your camera lense the wrong way round and it had a macro effect)

Don't do it, they are hopeless.

Buy an old manual focus 105mm Nikon lens.

You'll be manually focusing for true macro work anyway so might aswell get an older lens.

would i need anything other than the lenses for them to work on my D40 ??
