a teleconverter will increase the aperture of the lens and degrade the quality. this is acceptable on very very good lenses but not then poor ones we speak of

the price of your lense does sound tempting, but it dont think its compatible with the teleconverter i have

Its not wide especially on a 1.6 body, and the reach isn't so great and its a bit dark compared to 70-200 f4 or f2.8.

However when you consider it is one lens at 300 quid, and the alternative is two lenses at 500 each, the 28-135 looks a good all-rounder.

Only people who criticise it are those who want to throw more money at the problem or who don't mind carrying big bags.

did you think it was a good lense, heard mixed reviews about it?

any where up to 400 is ideal, i did look at l series ones but they are like a grand!!

If i were to spend less then that would be cool, as i can put it towards primes latter on.

All similar performance wise but you pay more for more width or more reach. Depends on budget really, there's no bad choice there at the price.

I have just bought a 350d to replace an old 35mm slr, i want a new lense for it as the one supplied is really plasticy.

To start off with i am looking for a good alrounder lense, as i do a lot of rock climbing and mountaineering so most of the time it just isnt pssoible to carry more than one lense.

I know there is a comprimise with a zoom lense over primes, but which of the following do you reckon i should get.

Looking at the

1. EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Mk2
2 . EF 24-85mm f3.5/4.5 USM LENS
3. EF 28-135mm f3.5/5.6 IMAGE STABILISER USM

The only thing with these is they aint got that big a wide angle but i think i could deal with that.

I would love the EF 24-70mm F2.8L USM but at nearly a grand it is way out of my budget!!!

So which one, pros and cons etc.

Cheers
