lol, formatting the disks is now even a problem! when i format, they only free up 1.38mb with 3.50kb being used up by something else?! the files are 1.44mb!

so what going on THERE then?!

nope, i think i may have found a floppy boot disk tho:

Boot / Setup disks for Windows 2000 Professional
- Disk 1 - cdboot1.img
- Disk 2 - cdboot2.img
- Disk 3 - cdboot3.img
- Disk 4 - cdboot4.img
- Disk utils to create Win2K disks from cdboot images.
( If you are using *nix you can write back these disk images using any bit copy program such as dd. Thanks to Andy Longton for pointing this out. )

i think the copy should be fine because it works fine once win98 is loaded. thing is, i cnt get hte pc to boot now i keep gettin:

"While Initialising device VFBACKUP:
Windows Protection Error. You need to restart your computer"

huh?

and what are the standard bios settings?

cant i format while in win98 and install 200 there and then?

i will look for a floppy book disk

jus going straight by?

did i burn the cd wrong?

looking through the cd modes in nero there is:

CD-ROM (ISO) (tried, worked fine once pc had fully booted)
Mixed Mode CD
CD Extra
Boot CD (tried, wouldn let me burn, may try again tho)
CD-ROM (UDF)
CD-ROM (UDF/ISO)

yeah the bois is set up right. If your cd is correct, on boot up it should detect the cd is a bootbale one and ask you to press any key if you want to boot of it. if you dont press any key it will carry on and boot up off your harddisk. is it trying to boot off of cd or just going straight by??

doesnt look like its booting from the cd. Have you gone into bios and told it to boot from cd as first option??

dave17

right, tryin 2 finally sort out my old pc 2 give to my bro. its a pII 400mhz (). it was originally running win98 but i have just downloaded 2000pro of my mates ftp server.i wish to format hte hard drive and run the 2000pro on it. the download came in a winrar file, i unzipped it to a new folder on my desktop and it came with these files:

so now i open nero and go to burn the files onto cd. firstly i chose to burn a CD-ROM (ISO) cd, was this correct??

i then proceeded to boot up the new burnt cd on the old pc, it had alot of error msgs before (something to do with norton anti virus :boggle:) then it just freezes:

now in theory the pc should jus run from the cd and go to a new page which wil give me the option of formatting and re-installing?

i think it may be due to the way i have burned the cd or something but im not too sure, please help me out as im bored and haven got much 2 do 2day!
