thanks will go have a read now
i think if the GPO one on microsoft site is what i read before, it just covers automatic listing within AD & printer discovery, not actually assigning specific printers to specific machines, but i will read it either way

I've tried searching but there isn't really that much out there :(
I've been thinking about doing it again via login scripts (is a tried & tested method on another network i setup, was ok, but not brilliant), but I'd prefer it done via a GPO is poss

Yes you can either do it by login scripts do a search for installing printers via login scripts.
Or even better you can do it by using policies in active directory but ive never done it, must be some info out there if you do a search.

btw all the clients are Windows XP Pro, and no I don't want to manually install it on each machine, as it would be a pain in the arse!

Not alot may know the answer to this, BUT
Is it possible to assign a specific machine a printer via either Active Directory or a Group Policy under Windows Server 2003/2000. I have 3 printers now setup on my LAN, and trying to automatically assign each one to specific usergroups / computers within AD, but can't figure it out! I've heard its possible to do, I just can't figure it out! :(
