Kerry your best of downloading the free veiwer of Word, it's because your trying to load an newer version of a word document in either wordpad or works. If you download the free viewer then that will sort it out.

You need to default .doc files to word if you have it, if not you can download the free word viewer from here.

Word Viewer

If you have word, then save the attachment to your desktop or somewhere, the right click on it and say open with then select choose program the from the list select word and then tick the box at the bottom.

Might work.

Sounds a bit virus-like. If you're not expecting them, delete immediately. If you are, save it, virus check it, open Word do a file open.
