If you had powered speakers these have had some decent reviews

It can be done using Bluetooth audio modules and an amp..

We have a stone floor, and it's a rented property so I don't fancy my chances of taking the skirting off without breaking anything

Can't you run them.under the carpet or behind the skirting? That's what I've done as I have laminate

Yeah, kind of defeats the object  maybe I'll have to make do with running white cables so they're atleast hidden!

I searched for this a while back and the speakers needed power so a bit pointless really

As well as my other thread about AV receivers, another issue I have is that I don't want to run wires around my room for the rear speakers, and wireless seems to be the way to go these days. I've searched google for wireless transmitters/receivers, but the 2 main names that come up don't appear to exist anymore, and aren't available for sale anywhere.

Anybody already done this? Or know how to do it?
