As far as I know any 2.5in HDD will work doesnt have to be "PS3 compatible".

Thats what I was hoping but apparently you cant as the PS3 can only accsess "game data" from an internal source. But this is only what google has come up with. I am no expert :o

Right I know I am very behind the times but I got a PS3 last year for cheap with GT. Would like to have a go at playing it online but I cant as I need to install certain bits. Which I cant do as there is not enough memory space on it. (its a slim one with flash drive only and no HD)

I see there are loads of "sata 2.5" HD" on ebay that are listed as PS3 compatible. Just a matter of opening it up and slotting one in?
Heard storys of having to re-install operating systems etc.

Dont wanna break it :(
