Can't beat LG imho, great value, reliable and unless your some kind of anal cine-nerd the picture is awesome... The sound sucks balls though :D

I got this TV about two months ago, for £850 with a 5 year warranty to match John Lewis. It's a 49 inch 4k LG and can do 3D but the big selling point for me was that it runs webOS, a really nice interface. I see it's cheaper on Richer Sounds now but I don't know if it still has the same guarantee.

LG 49ub850v

Saw the adverts for a good price on the Samsung 4ks the other day too when you trade in

I've had a 40" LG 1080p for around 6 years now.
I'd certainly recommend LG.

4k looks amazing if you can match your budget.

Currys were doing a deal on the 900hz, 55" LED 4K setup the other day.. I know the 49" version was only £599 and the 55" for £749

I'd recommend LG too. I wanted to get their 50inch 4k one but don't currently have the space. Think that was around £600-£700 in Currys. Looked far crisper and had a better colour balance than any other it was next too in the store. Same could be said for all their others too, in my opinion.

Ended up buying a 32inch full 1080p LG for about £250 and can't fault it. Moving house soon so can't wait to get the bigger one!

Edit: think it was the 49UB820V.

2nd the kdl50w8

Really good TV and the stand doubles as a wall mount

Got a Sony kdl50w8 last month. £599 at the time but I think it is now cheaper. Can't fault it. Really good for football, films and Fifa and a really nice design.

My mam and dad got an LG after years with hitachi and they're impressed,

Not overly keen on 3d, so not fussed if it has that, cba sitting on my couch like Troy from the thunderbirds watching a film.

As title, after a new TV

Got a Philips at the moment, and it's not really up to scratch, struggles with some things, such as football.

50-55inch, led & smart preferred.

Maximum I'm willing to spend is about £700
