I agree they should not be verbally advertising in interviews etc but I think covering up other brands on clothing etc is a step too far. This is the Olympics which I appreciate requires sponsors but this is sponsors first, competitors 2nd. Many of the competitors our there are only there because they have the finances provided by their sponsors.

Are they going to ask all the snowboard competitors who are running non sponsor boards to cover them all up?

If I was paying so much money to sponser something I'd do the same.

My friend works at ITV and they get truck loads of stuff sent in from manufacturers.

Of course they do. Even though they've denied it in the past.

Handing out iPhones like candy is still paying, even though no cash is involved.

Its probably more to do with product placement of other brands.

If Samsung are paying £x to show off their latest device, they may not be happy to see an Apple device being advertised for free.

Don't programs have to show a letter P in the opening credits if they're doing product placement, at least I've noticed that on a few programs.

Ah. Fair enough, maybe you/we just notice it more with apple products, as in fairness, they're such a recognisable brand, and do such a good job with their design and brand uniqueness?

Always makes me laugh when shows blatantly dont cover them and you know theyve been paid for it

Actually question was more, HP, Compaq, Toshiba etc don't tend to get covered up, but Apple do and it makes it more obvious. :look:

They do it so that they're not inadvertently doing product placement. There are quick strict rules around showing logos and products on the TV in the UK so you quite often see things covered up - you might notice that sometimes people have logos on their t-shirts covered with tape and things.

The weird thing is that sometimes you see stuff covered and sometimes they don't bother. Guess it's something to do with the rules in place.

Pretty sure the answer is no.

I doubt there is much they can do to stop it.

Just seems odd that any other computer brand isn't covered up.

They probably don't want to give Apple free advertising.

BBC will do this to try an appear neutral.

Yeah probably don't want to promote Apple tbh

Does anyone know why when an Apple laptop is used on tv they place a sticker over the Apple light on the back of the screen?

I thought it may be because they don't want to be seen as promoting Apple, but this makes it more obvious. Or could it be the issue lies with Apple wanting to charge?

Doesn't seem to be any issue with the logo being shown in films.
