I will grab a photo of it. It has snapped right up beside the body, and i don't have the bit that's snapped off either.

Post a photo of what you're trying to solder.

Pretty much, if it's broken where they usually break (right up by the body). Copying over what's already on it isn't really possible too, they're not like memory cards which just contain data. They're really circuits in a neat package, if they're programmable then it's sometimes possible to take what's on them off but they're usually protected with a 'fuse'.

So is it pretty much scrap now?? Take it it would need to have the legs on it to read it and have it copied to another chip??

Yes and no. You could probably solder it on, but the likelihood of the heat damaging the IC beyond repair would be pretty high.

Just found an old BBR-GTi Engineering "Star Chip" for a Calibra V6. Bought it years ago but never fitted it.

Only problem now is 1 of the legs have snapped off. So is it possible to have a new 1 soldered on??
