I'd put it through my reviver anyway. cant use my appleTV properly as im not on iPhone anymore so this would work well for me. Especially as i have no home stereo at all really, Unless i boot my media PC but can never be arsed

John

That could be what's driving the cost up.

By no means does 25W equal bad.

You get very capable stereo amps at 25W. My old 70's Sansui amp is only 25W if I remember correctly.

Basically wattage tells nothing about the quality of an amp.

Only supports Android, so no streaming / controlling from a computer. Shame.

Does look cool and the built in amp makes it capable of being a very different device to an Apple TV.

Can't help but think it's priced a bit too high though...

Not really half the price of sonus is it? It's £350 for an S5 + bridge, which just works.

I'm not saying the sonus doesn't also have it's downfalls and is expensive compared to other stuff, I'm impressed with it though, my dad very rarely asks me anything about it.

If its connected to an Amp it can be used in a very similar way to this. You just select play audio to AppleTV and it will come out your speakers, if you do just want audio then go for the even cheaper Airport Express. So maybe a better comparison is an Airport Express

The only things I can see it does which Apple TV doesn't is

Has a 25W Amp
Has a volume knob
(For $200 I am pretty sure you could get a better amp than 25W)

Also you can't stream stuff from your phone to it, it downloads from the cloud so if you have something on your phone like a movie it does it via the cloud, it does not do it using local connections like Wifi etc.

Maybe so, but look at the sonus stuff. This does the same and more but is half the price.

I think ill be buying one anyway.

John

posted on 28th Jun 12 at 11:12

That's true, it's still got the mentioned downfalls for me though, I'd find more if it was apple.

Gary

Don't need xbmc imo.

If this had an apple logo on it there'd be spunk all over this thread

Dom

It's expensive but the design is fecking cool

What's the video playback, is it similar to ATV in that it allows you to purchase and watch films/tv from the store? Assuming it runs Android of sorts as well?

Edit - It looks like it runs JellyBean of sorts and doesn't directly have a visual interface rather you use your JB device to interact with it. Would make a cool media streamer if someone managed to get XMBC or similar on it.
Bit of a hands-on here - http://www.itproportal.com/2012/06/28/google-nexus-q-hands/

Nothing like apple TV apart from the bits that are just the same, like sharing music and videos to your TV /stereo?

Definitely looks cool, I also like the volume knob top half.

Gary

posted on 28th Jun 12 at 09:35

How you know its more expensive? Its not released here yet

Gary

Nothing like apple TV.

I like it cos it looks cool and is made by Google.

Only the same as the Apple wankers

John

posted on 28th Jun 12 at 09:29

Like an apple TV except more expensive.

Not sure on the value of these devices now when just about any TV you can buy already has it all built in.

Cloud thing is also a bit stupid, can see them changing it to allow local content very quickly.

Sonos will play from 'the cloud' btw.

Not quite. Can connect speakers directly to it. No need for a TV. Just play music directly through it from your tab/phone.

Bit like the Sonus stuff but it'll play stuff from your cloud
