Hmm O2 sim only package for the iPad is not that bad really. £2.04 for 200mb for 24hrs. I probably won't need to use it for any longer than 24hrs on 3g so I might just stick with this.

It's a MVNO and as Russ said, uses the O2 network. So if you have decent O2 coverage then you'll be fine.

I like on O2 I can choose to add 200mb if and when I need it and when I am outside of wifi networks. On Giffgaff does anyone know if this is possible?

You'd need to use one of their sims with a data only plan aka Gigabag (against T&Cs to use mobile Goodybags on tables/pcs etc) and the amount stated (they give you a 50
MB 'buffer' on top) is the amount that is allocated to you on a 'monthly' (from what i remember a 'month' is exactly 4 weeks from 'bag purchase date) basis. You're not able to purchase multiple 'bags within a single 'month', so once you've used your allocation data you're then charged 2p per MB which is taken out of your credit (if you have any).

I've never had any issues with GiffGaff, although John is right in that they've had a number (iirc 2/3; one outage was an all-dayer) of outages over the last 2 months but personally these didn't really affect me.
Obviously GiffGaff doesn't suit everyone, so have a good read around especially on their forums.

Didn't know that you couldn't roam in the states with GiffGaff. Are there any other limitations with roaming?

Not that, that really matters.

It's ok when it's working, it's been down once a month for the past couple of months though.

Suppose it wouldn't matter if it's for a secondary device.

They don't cover the US btw.
