jailbreaking isn't just about installous

I don't think its illegal to download the app but using said software will be what's licensed. not that they would ever detect it anyway and if your jailbreaking your phone to avoid paying apple's prices for apps, not like your overly concerned about legality anyway

Nokia maps is far better than the tomtom one anyway. And it's free

Its basically a sharing system where you can download apps people have created. Most apps from the app store can be had for free but there is a shit load which are not on the app store.

Also The download links work similar to say rapidshare where you can only download a certain file size for free otherwise you have to buy a subscription or wait for so long before downloading again.

Russ said its illegal to download apps from installous but a lot of the apps arent approved by apple, hence why you dont find a lot of them in the app store.

Tomtom is in the app store but i didnt say it was legal to download that, only those which cant be bought elsewhere can be downloaded legally.

But that's not the law. It would only be legit if the company themselves have placed the software on installous to be freely distributed, but i suspect that is not the case with the TomTom app.
Also the TomTom app is available on the App Store from doing a quick Google - HERE

Am i right in thinking Installous is basically a sharing medium for pirated apps? Or does it offer legit software?

it is illegal to download apps from installous, if you are jailbreaking just for free apps then i suggest getting an android phone where more apps are free
