Had it on loads of them - even if you put the PC in the DMZ or open every port in some cases! :boggle:

Ah, MSN file transfer yeah? Seems to be a really common 'issue'...

I had a few problems accepting files at first from other people on the same router as me. Seemed to solve it once I upgraded my firmware

I didn't think the Linksys ones were too bad TBH - I've played with a few of these for work - mainly the Linksys and Netgear ones - all web based admin malarkey but the port filtering seems to confuse a lot of folk with the Linksys

Or when you get a new PC just stick another card in your old one and use that as the router/firewall...

I have a Linksys Router matey. I'd reccommend them. How much are they nowadays? I got mine for £50 from buy.com a while back. Was a good deal at the time!

if its a 300w psu he doesnt really need a new one

quote: If that's what you got now you'll defo need a new board. Yes you'll need a new fan too. Your psu is likely to be atx seeing as it's an K6 500 but I would get a newer one anyway they're well cheap. Your current psu is prolly not that powerful. An easy(ish) way to tell your motherboard make is take your cover off and look on the board. There's normally a number on there somewhere you can punch into google and then find out what make it is. I'd guess it was gigabyte... [Edited on 23-04-2003 by Kieran McMutrie]
