My multiroom box was installed without being plugged into a phone line and the guy wasn't bothered. Never had it plugged in since (over a year ago) and every so often it comes up with a message on the TV Guide saying about plugging it in but we've never had a letter.

Don't know if it makes a difference that we upgraded to HD downstairs so we had our old Sky+ box moved to my room.

Don't see why they are like this. I don't even jar a landline but have sky. Never caused me any problems

When Sky installed mine at my old place they run an extension to the other room. Get in touch and tell them to come and sort it maybe. Looks messy having wires everywhere though.

I was looking for Home Plugs that moved the phone line a while back but couldn't see anything. Would be a nice solution for you that with no wires. If you find anything i'd be intrested to know!

It's bollocks unless they chase you for it.

If they don't chase you there's no reason to plug it in though.

My second box isn't connected anymore and hasn't been for some time, I think it's only the 1st 12months it has to be hooked up. We got the letters too and one month they did bill us for two separate subs but they refunded that after I hooked the second box up.

It's in the contract so has to be done. Stops people jsut paying for multiroom then using the card at another address. Think you'll just have to live with it, as our letters didn't stop coming lol I think after a certain period on the normal main box you can drop the phone line but as long as you have multiroom then it must be plugged in all the time. Could always get a wireless phone jack telephone extension to save you running wires and ripping up carpets.

Tell them to shite.

Tell them you you don't have a landline socket close to the box and if they want to check the box is in your house then send someone round.

They only do it so you can't get multiroom and use the card somewhere else.

Same happened to me after about 3 years.

I started by plugging it in to let it check in then I got bored of the letters and ran a phone line to it.

I think it's part of the terms that both boxes are connected to a phone line for the first 12 months. I had the same letters and had to run a temp phone line. Now neither boxes are connected and they don't seem to care. Pretty sure you can get a gadget that turns a normal electrical outlet into a phone line, think Maplins do them.

Nope, used box office downstairs now and again but not in my room. No phone line with them either.

Ring them mate it's bollocks. Do they provide your phone? Do you ever use box office? If not unplug them as it's not needed and tell them you've no longer got a land line

when mine was set up in my room he said i just needed to plug it in to a phone line to activate the new viewing card, after that i could unplug it and it been fine like that for about 6 months.and i pay an extra £10

I have multi-room in my bedroom, its never been plugged in to the phone line because there isn't a phone socket near it. It's all been fine but not Sky are sending letters saying it has to be plugged in or they will start charging a full subscription for the multi-room (£40+ instead of just £10)

But its a pain to plug it in, the nearest phone socket is in my mum and dads room so would have to pull the carpets up from my room, accross the landing then into mum and dads room...

Any way of avoiding this as it would be a massive pain to do.
