Just tried it on the laptop and its working 100% so it must be down to my computer why its not working. Its useless it working on the laptop as I never use it

I've formatted it via the laptop so will try it again on the computer tomorrow.

Laptop O/S is windows Vista, maybe thats why its working ok?

Could be the eSata/usb connector on the enclosure that's dodgy. I had a caddy that would do this on the esata side but was fine via usb. As said open it up and check the drive. A new external caddy can be bought for about £12.

Hmm... I may try this if I can't get it to work through the USB

Just unplugged it then plugged it back in and it appeared, then disappeared again

Just tried it again through the windows installer and it said your device is installed and ready to use.

How do I get to the hard drive on my computer though? Its not showing up in 'My Computer'?

External drives are normally just plug and play, you won't need to install any drivers unless you are using Windows 95 or something equally ancient.

If it's a normal 3.5" drive inside the case you will need to power it via an external power supply BTW.

Try another PC first, could just be good old Windows being a little silly.

Drop me a U2U if you get totally stuck or silly replies...

My mate gave me a Buffalo HD today but he doesn't have the installation disc. Can I install it on my computer without the disc?

I've tried doing it through the windows installer but it isn't working that way, I've also looked on google but can't find any info.

Model: Buffalo HD-PET500U2/W-EU and my O/S is windows XP.
