that'll copy the music from your ipod onto your computer, if its on your ipod now, it will be onyour computer afterwards

Will that work as the original file no longer exists? When I try to play the songs they won't load and says original file cannot be located :|

I have music on an old iPod that I'd like to transfer onto my iPhone. However, while the music is on the iPod and appears in iTunes, I have deleted the original files from my computer and therefore iTunes cannot locate the file.
Is there a way to transfer the music from my original iPod into iTunes and onto my iPhone?
