You lads were spot on!

I ended yo googling "avi codec for windows movie maker", downloaded the first codec and all was well.

Thanks for all the help / advice :)

This is probably the issue. You can check video/audio codecs using >GSpot<.
Could also try Virtualdub, it's mainly a convertion/filter tool but it has basic editing functions.

Looking that way as its one film out of loads will not produce sound. Is there a way to figure out what codec I need?

Lack of sound could also be a codec issue.

There is an option just above the edited storyboard, to set audio levels. Change to the left to 100% video instead of adding your own music or mix of the two. Should only take the sound from the vid I think. Not used it for a couple of years.

Anyone know of any software for the above? Wanting 4 x 1 minute clips from a 2 hour .avi file.

Any help appreciated.
