 things aren't that bad. But the N8 is £10 extra over existing contract.

This.

Rather live than have a Nokia N8

As with most things O2 these days you can't normally do it O2-O2.

I ported my number twice with O2:

PAYG > Simplicity
Simplicity > Proper Contract

Didn't have any problems doing so either occasion.

Available as an upgrade on O2 on 24 month contract. Nokia Direct can do this and use existing SIM.

If I start a new contract they can do O2 to O2 but would need PAC. Costs with O2 are pro-rata so would get charged if I go over on Simplicity and new contract should get charged pro-rata from the next payment date.

Got PAC code so think I'll go to a new contract as only on Simplicity and get the phone in about 11 days :D

It isn't available. Only on O2, Vodafone and T-mobile. iirc all the press I have read only mentions those 3 carriers.

if you upgrade yes, if you take out a new contract, afaik, you can't port numbers.

Better to phone to find out for sure though.

What about 3? Best 3G signal now haven't they?

Well that would make sense as it would save swapping SIMs I guess.

Is O2 Simplicity Pay Monthly to O2 18 Month Pay Monthly not simple then?

Ahh that's ok, thought you were going from an o2 simplicity to another o2 contract.

Just going to check Vodafone signal. Might just cancel O2 Simplicity and shift number to Vodafone.

Have you seen how much they want online for the phone on a £35/month contract. It's actually ridiculous. I'm convinced that the iPhone 4 can't be so much better than any other smart phone they can ask for ~£180 upfront for the phone.

IPhone :look: :o

Hmmm interesting - going to give all relevant parties a call tomorrow otherwise I'll be ordering an N8 :D

Never been charged up front for a phone (unless apart for the money you put to fr an expensive phone)

You won't get a bill until a month after.
Simplicity is a bit weird as it's not a proper contract.

When I went from PAYG to O2 Simplicity I distinctly remember upgrading free of charge, then about 5 days in they took the first Direct Debit of £25 a month in advance.

I kind of understand the reasoning behind this, but does it apply to all contracts?

The reason I ask is the Nokia N8 is available through NokiaDirect.co.uk on O2 on a fantastic Pay Monthly 18 Month contract deal, as a new contract, but not as an upgrade option. As I currently only have a Simplicity deal, I am happy to take out a completely new contract and transfer my number to this new contract, but can't really afford £25 final payment for my Simplicity plus another £35 for this new contract come end-September / beginning-October.

Now I know I can call them tomorrow but can anyone actually try and clarify when/if I will be charged for this new contract?
