I watched one of the LG 3d TVs without glasses in Harrods. It made me feel sick within a few minutes :o

That's what I was going to say.

I read an article that said you should hold off buying a 3D tv for 2 reasons

1 - The technology is improving fast - You could buy one now, but in 6 months or a year it'd be quite dated compared to the newer ones which will get released (better / smoother / faster)

2 - The long term health effects are currently unknown. It is said to potentially effect the eye long term / cause similar effects as strobing. The long term effects will be tried to be resolved in newer hardware (see point 1 )

Plus, sitting I your living room wearing glasses when you don't normally wear anything would annoy me greatly. Don't know about anyone else, but I'll still with a regular 2D picture for now :lol:

3DS screen works only if you are looking directly at the screen, which is what you will mostly be doing, thats why there's no glasses.

There was a good article on 3d TVs on Gizmodo earlier this week and it included a section on non-glasses systems.

Worth looking up if you want to find out a bit more detail.

Gadget show had some sort of laptop that did 3D without needing glasses

They can do it without glasses currently, the problem is you need to be sitting at a couple of exact spots to get the effect, anything outside of that looks rubbish.

The human eye can't selectively filter different polarizations or left and right but that's not really the issue with no glasses 3d.

Yeah what Robbo said really, it projects the picture twice so it gives the effect its 3d

you're both kind of wrong - the human eye can't do it IIRC but the newest 3D tellys have a double screen or somethign to simulate the effect of the galsses

Hi

I'm having a "discussion" with a colleague of mine about 3D TV.

He's of the understanding that the human eye is able to watch 3D content on a TV without the use of the glasses.

He thinks that the newest 3D TV’s will allow people to be able to sit and watch 3D TV (with all the 3D effects) without having to wear glasses.

I think he's wrong, and that the human eye can't do this...am I wrong here, or is he?
