You could check the event log, that would tell you what happened.

did a fresh install yes rather than an upgrade

i think i have all the updates

Do you have all the windows updates installed?

Did you do a clean install instead of an upgrade?

Did you format when you installed?

Check to see if there were any windows updates installed, an update srewed with my Win7

I'm running it fine and honestly don't know what to suggest.

You could try unplugging every plug-in device (speakers, web-cams, etc) to see if it gets past that stage without them, that helped me a few times in the past but it's unlikely.

I;ve got it, can be running perfect next thing when I turn it on, it wont go past the windows starting page

and I have to boot in safe mode and system restore.

any ideas?
