I have a synology CS407, would highly recommend Synology, other than that, the only other brand id consider is Qnap.

You can build your own for about the same sort of money, maybe less, but its more hassle/maintenance imo.

Ive got the synology DS210j and i love it, got 2TB and use it for storing all my films and music, its good cos it talks to pc+xbox+ps3 and also my sony tv with dlna which is great, with lots of other stuff, well worth the money imo

Reply is a little late, but Synology's are cracking!!

I've got an ICY NAS but will very soon be upgrading to the Synology after my mate found his ICY wasn't working correctly and left him open to data loss (RAID wasn't writing to the 2nd disk :! )

After loosing a chunk of my data recently I want to get a NAS box that I can use to automate some backups too.

Anyone get any good cheap suggestions? I am thinking second hand synology nas box and then just pop a new hard drive in there.

Anyone know of a better idea?
