quote: thats what i thought but this one doesn't. i've just stuck a wireless network card in my dads pc that i had at work. i reckon i can set everything up from my laptop then he can connect wirelessly to his router. i'd rather use ethernet though if i can.

Usually they have a USB port too anyway don't they? Might be easier.

There's no real rules for the light, you can't really use that for diagnosis.

right when i plug the ethernet cable into my laptop i get a steady green LED and a flashing amber one. i only get the steady green one on my dads desktop. i guess that means his is broken.

I'm trying to set my Dads internet up and i'm having some problems. He has a modem that we are trying to connect to his desktop pc with an ethernet cable. am i right in thinking that the pc should detect when an ethernet cable is plugged in automatically? what lights on his ethernet port should come on when i plug it in? i get one steady light on when i plug it in and windows isn't detecting any new connections. I think his ethernet port is knackered but i'm not sure. |
