In a similar boat myself. You need something that offers a hdmi repeater faciilty and has more than optical input.

I know the Panasonic model you're on about, looked at it myself the other day but I still dont think "virtual" surround is anything near the real deal.

I was looking at this offering from Samsung http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/9556445/Samsung-HT-BD1252-Blu-ray-Home-Theatre-System/Product.html

Has 2 optical inputs but mentions nothing about HDMI repeater

Sony do a one-box home cinema kit with HDMI inputs (3 i think)

Onkyo also do a 2.1 kit with HDMI inputs which is upgradeable to 5.1

if you really want to use HDMI then you can get a splitter - more wires but at least you'll get the use of more than 1 HDMI.

if you buy separately, you'll more then likely get better quality audio for less money - unless there's a special offer on somewhere for an AIO package.

trouble with seperates is the extra boxes and wires and plugs etc...

I dont have much space, im trying to cut down on unnesecary wires and plugs.

I currently have an LG scarlet with a panasonic bd player, hooked into my panasonic surround system but it only had 1 hdmi port so i have to do the audio coaxial and i have an xbox as well. So its all a mess and i cant use the brilliant ipod dock because i havent got the surround hooked up to visual just audio so its redundant.

I saw a nice looking Panasonic Bd home cinema system with ipod dock but it is virtual surround sound only has 3 speakers and i know its advertised as being as good as surround sound but i bet its not.

So yeah maybe seperates then :(

If you went seperates then yeah, something like an Onkyo AV Amp + 5.1 Speaker Package + BDPlayer/PS3 + Onkyo Ipod Dock. Haven't really seen an all in one unit with an ipod dock built in, although you could just purchase an apple dock and then use the 3.5mm jack output and connect it to your AV Amp....
