There is only a desktop (wired) PC connected to the router most of the time, some times (i.e. when there are visitors) they connect wirelessly. The problem exists with both wired and wireless connections.

The router is a 2Wire something-or-other if that helps (BT branded apparently). Distance from the exchange is about 360 metres ATCF.

if the box is wireless it could be bad signal to your router

the box that sends you data to create a speed test could be overloaded or have a crap route to your DSL, remember higher latency normally means less throughput.

If a DSL connection is sync'd up at 8Mb, but various speed test sites report a download speed of 0.80Mb :o what would most likely be causing this problem?

I thought at first the PC, but even wireless connections from a new laptop have a crap speed too.
