heard some good things about the sony w range and the newer 200hz range.

Though the panasonic i looked at at the weekend looked really good, think it was a g10

you won't really noticed the power consumption between an LCD or Plasma.

im after a 40" possibly 42" and my 2 options are etheir to get a panosonic plasma or a sony lcd, i know there are other makes out there but you get good warranties with these two brands and they seem to me to be the 2 more popular brands

never noticed my bills being any higher.

My LCD is rated at 194W standard use (37" Panasonic)

Same sized Plasma by Pana is rated at 235W standard use...

So yeah, bugger all in comparison really... Although alot of the more modern "Energy Efficient" LCD's are around 120 to 140W standard use.
