The graphics chip in your laptop probably uses some RAM as it's memory (most laptops share the RAM between the operating system and the video memory), as there's no seperate 'video card' as such like there is with PCs/Macs etc.

You can confirm this by going either into the BIOS settings or Display Adapter settings through Control Panel > Display.

hay peeps, misses has a Alimo 1718

ive upgraded the ram as it only came with 1gb and the laptop was using 700mb of that when starting up and just ideling.

now its got 2gb and its now using 1.4gb starting up and just ideling..

almost no prosesses are running and nothign has changed apart from the ram so can anyone shed some light on why this thing is using more ram now?
