Just to update - I have installed Vista (Home Premium) with OEM key and Retail DVD and it worked fine for me. | |

I'm not 100% on vista, I've never used a vista oem cd, defo worked with xp though. | |

No you don't, if he has an OEM key stuck to his machine he's probably got an OEM machine, in which case any OEM disc should work. | |

yes then u need a bios hack bit software, hjave used it but pain in the arse when it comes to updates | |

You don't need recovery discs either, any oem cd would work, they just check the BIOS, don't need a key. | |

It shouldn't work, it definitely didn't with XP, don't think I've tried with vista though | |

I don't think it knows about what kind of disc you've used. I've used several different discs for reinstalls and the thing that matters is the serial number. | |
