On my phone it automatically switches between WiFi and GPRS/3G depending on what's got the best signal. Unlimited data is included and it's a breeze to turn WiFi on and off if you need to. Don't let bubblevaux or Robbo hear that though.

On my phone (XDA) I just disabled GPRS and enabled WiFi, that way I know for sure that O2 won't rape me with their data charges

I just like the phone, I use wifi when I can and use the email features too. Amazingly though, you try and find details of the useage costs, I challenge you after I looked on the Orange website last night and the O2 site and i'll be damned if I can find any information that isnt vague.

quote: Open your browser, go to options, and go to "Browser Configuration" and change the Browser to "Hotspot Browser". After that, go into "General Properties" of the browser application option and do the same in there. quote: Sort of and not really, if that makes any sense(!). I have a Blackberry without a data plan (It costs 30 quid a month here for unlimited email and internet). Normally I am sat infront of my machine where I don't need my phone for either internet or email, and on a nightime I'm either at my girlfriends (Who has wireless internet), or out playing football/down the pub, where I wouldn't use email/internet anyway. Suppose it all just depends on how much you need to have access to emails really, and for the sad wankers amomgst us, how many times they want to update their life on Facebook.

I can't remember how I did it exactly but I've set the browser to only work on wifi - I did something with the hotspot settings. Not much help I know though. Sorry!

Does having a blackberry and not using data not defeat the purpose a bit?

GPRS is an always-on connection, it'll be connected whether it's in use or not.

I only want to connect to the internet using my wifi (coz its free obviously) but how do I know if i'm connecting using the wifi or using orange's costly browsing service? |
