Originally posted by Jambo jacko Orange brand theiir phones and put their own software on them, they failed Oranges quality tests so they need to configure them better untill they pass. In 2 weeks aparently. The phones from phones4u/carphone etc are Nokia unbranded aka generic ones. Can you remove the battery now Kurt? Use a different sim card in? Vibration feedback on touch screen? Oh a proper camera? 30 frames per second video? Didnt think so.
What type of argument is that? You always could swap simcards. Vibration feedback, no - but then again do you really need it on an iPhone? i've never felt the need and like Nismo, when i had a go on a Samsung it felt weird. Propper camera, again what does that mean? All mobiles don't have "propper" cameras or lenses. If you meant resolution, then yes the 3GS is a little low at 3MPs but to be honest the quality from 5MP N95s are nothing to shout about. As for 30FPS video yes it does do that. However, like any other mobile it won't be constant, the frame rate varies due to the shite CMOS/CCDs they use (show it solid black at it might hit the 30fps limit). Plus, as long as the frame rate is above 20fps you won't notice flickering certainly not at the VGA quality majority of phones record in - although there are a few new phones coming out with HD capability (Samsung are doing one i believe), it'll be interesting to see how noisy captured footage is (most HD handycams are pretty bad and they have the space in a body to incorporate a lens). MarkM - I've had a few Nokias and SE where i've dropped them off wall ledges (foot high or so) or out of the car (fell from pocket onto the kerb or road) and the screens have gone. Obviously the iPhone (and any other large LCD'd mobile) will be more fragile due to the larger pane of glass but i've dropped iPhones from height and never had any problems - not saying that it doesn't happen, but it certainly isn't a valid argument. One thing i do really like about the 3GS is the OpenGL ES 2 support (i think WM7 might support it at some point) via the PowerVR SGX 535 GPU which gives it a poly rate in line with a PSP (3GS is marginally higher), which will be great for portable gaming and will hopefully increase the use of 3D within apps, like an all 3D TomTom, or 3D mapping of the Google Earth app (and smoother hopefully as it's a bit cack at the momement) etc.
