way i used to do it, make a system disk (presuming your not runnin win2k or xp), copy attrib.com, smartdrv.exe and deltree.com from the WINDOWS\COMMAND directory to the floppy. | |

the other problem with ghosting of cause is if ur rebuilding the machine because of a software problem, the problem wont go away wen u ghost the image back onto the machine | |

ghosting is crap and can cause problems, do it all manually is the best way, little more time consuming but ensures proper installations of things | |

I have cable for drivers and dunt wanna gohst - the reason for reformatting is as the whole thing has gone tits up - i am on xp too and it wont auto update or nuffin like that, so rather than minmce around i thought i wud nuke it all - anyone got any idea how to make windows xp recognise and format a new harddrive? - i have hooked it up it has said new hardware found and all that and in device manager it says this device is working properly however its not formatted - is fdisk still on xp? i dunno any help please lads and ladettes | |

make sure you've got easy access to any drivers you need and the cd-keys for your OS | |

yeah but if you are a novice user then ghost is fiddly to use. it only supports IDE/SCSI cd writers so you need to be on a network or have another Hard drive to either clone it onto or create an image. | |

i am just about to format my pc and i always forget to back stuff up so any thoghts on what not to forget? |
